Field Party 2012 was one of our favorite date nights of the year once again. Everyone had a great time dancing and roasting marshmallows with their dates at Pappy’s Field! We can’t wait to go back again for Field Party 2013!
One of our favorite weekends in Fall semester is Parent’s Weekend. There is always a fun event planned where the parents get to meet their daughters’ new best friends. This past year, we held a tailgate at the historic Hardeman- Sams House on Milledge Avenue. It was an afternoon filled with great music, food, family and Georgia football.
This spring we went on a date night to the Braves vs Cubs game at Turner Field in Atlanta. We had so much fun cheering on the Braves with all of our sisters and our dates!
UGA Miracle is not only one of the philanthropies we fundraise for, but it is also one of the biggest and most-widely participated in philanthropies on campus. UGA Miracle benefits Children’s Hospitals of Atlanta. Every year, UGA Miracle hosts a 24-hour dance marathon. Throughout the event different activities take place and several Miracle kids from Children’s Hospitals attend. At the end of the 24 hours, the fundraising grand total is revealed. In 2013, the total was $321,573, and Gamma Phi participants raised $17,642.31!!
Crescent Classic was a blast this year! It was held on our front lawn in April 2013. For only $5 everyone enjoyed pizza and gelato from the Athens restaurant, YourPie. We also had a corn-hole tournament for all the attendees to participate in that was a lot of fun. Proceeds support our international philanthropy, Girls On The Run, a local philanthropy, Chip’s Nation, and ugaMiracle. This year, we had so many people attend, we actually ran out of pizza! We raised a lot of money to benefit our philanthropies, and hopefully we can continue to do so in the future. Come join us for our next philanthropy event!
This spring Gamma Phi had two teams participate in ATO’s annual philanthropy “Tau Tug.” The event is a tug of war contest between the sororities that raises money for cystic fibrosis research and care. We had a blast participating on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. All the participants enjoyed engaging in the tug of war games, making shirts together, getting a little muddy, and being a part of ATO’s Viking Week. We really enjoyed the event and being a part of the great cause ATO supports.
Relay for Life’s Greek Week starts with the “Light up Milledge” event. Our walkway is lined with luminaries in honor or in memory of our loved ones. Previously, most of the luminaries that lined our walkway were donated in memory of Ana Collins’ dad. Anna Collins is an alumni of Gamma Phi who’s dad died after years of battling cancer. All of the luminaries were decorated by the donator to personally dedicate their luminary to a loved one. Check out this video of Gamma Phi lighting up Milledge!
The events that took place in the 2013 Greek Week included:
Monday: Luminary walk on Milledge. Each luminary costs $5 and all procedes benefit the American Cancer Society.
Tuesday: Trivia on the front lawn of AGR and a percentage night at Barberitos.
Wednesday: Percentage nights at Five Points Restaurants-
Thursday: Percentage nights downtown-
Al’s Beef (7-10 only)
Friday: Percentage night at Loco’s Moose Yard on Baxter. It’ll be a night full of food, Relay, and music!
Attendance was taken at the events and the winning Greek Team was awarded the proceeds to their team total, totaling over $3,000!
Every 4 years it is tradition to hold our Spring Crescent Ball Formal at the Fox Theatre in Downtown Atlanta. This tradition has always been one to look forward to, so this year was exceptionally special for all of us! Something to look forward to as a new member is that before every Formal the Freshman are presented to the Chapter and their date as they walk down our front staircase.
Parent’s Weekend is always something to look forward to in the Fall. In 2011, our parents joined us Friday evening for a night of dancing and desserts at a hotel ball room in downtown Athens. The next morning we had a tables set up in our front lawn for a traditional southern tailgate with good food to eat and fun games to play before we cheered on the Dawgs at Sanford Stadium!
