Philanthropy
From mentoring local elementary school children to volunteering at the local Boys and Girls Club, Gamma Phi Betas love to lend a helping hand. Philanthropy is very important to Gamma Phi Beta. Our sorority supports our national philanthropy, Campfire USA, one of the nations leading developmental organizations, which helps send underprivileged children to camp. Our sorority also actively supports the Clute Barrow Nelson Life Foundation, Children’s Miracle Network and the American Cancer Society.
Each fall, our chapter holds an annual Chili Cook-Off where sororities, fraternities and other community organizations compete to make the best chili. University students and the Athens community are invited to spend Sunday afternoon on our lawn as they eat chili and listen to live music. Then every spring, our chapter hosts an annual Movie on the Lawn where students from campus and Athens locals can watch a movie while eating popcorn and hotdogs.
Throughout the year, Gamma Phi Betas participate in numerous other activities and philanthropies that raise money for many local and national charities. This year, Delta Upsilon contributed over $ 24,000 to the Children’s Miracle Network. Our sorority also participated in choral cup, an acapella competition that raised money for Relay for Life and came in 1st place.
