Formal at the Fox!

Every 4 years it is tradition to hold our Spring Crescent Ball Formal at the Fox Theatre in Downtown Atlanta. This tradition has always been one to look forward to, so this year was exceptionally special for all of us! Something to look forward to as a new member is that before every Formal the Freshman are presented to the Chapter and their date as they walk down our front staircase.

Parent’s Weekend!

Parent’s Weekend is always something to look forward to in the Fall. In 2011, our parents joined us Friday evening for a night of dancing and desserts at a hotel ball room in downtown Athens. The next morning we had a tables set up in our front lawn for a traditional southern tailgate with good food to eat and fun games to play before we cheered on the Dawgs at Sanford Stadium!

Socials!

Every semester we have socials with various Fraternities lined up for Thursday nights. After sifting through racks at the Good Will for the perfect outfit for the Social’s theme, Socials are a fun way to meet people, take tons of pictures and make many memories!

Senior Celebration

Every spring Gamma Phi sends our graduation seniors off with Senior Celebration! It is a weeklong congratulation to our seniors for graduating and a time set aside for our women to remember their experiences with their sisters at UGA. We start it all off with a banquet dinner where the whole chapter gets together and listens to speeches written by each senior’s little sister and each senior’s parents. Another day during the week, we go to a local painting class, and in a group setting, the seniors each paint our big white house on a canvas! At night, the seniors go to dinner and different venues in downtown Athens in a large group to visit all their favorite places. The last night of Senior Celebration is “Senior Willings”! Each senior brings a ton of old t-shirts, funny social costumes and other Gamma Phi Beta goods that they have accumulated, and “will” their things off to younger girls in the chapter. It is a special night because the seniors use gifts and funny stories of their time in Gamma Phi to reminisce and celebrate the sisterhood that they have been apart of for the previous four years. Although Gamma Phi celebrates the women who graduate, this in no way means that they are no longer sorority girls. It is simply the beginning of a lifetime of sisterhood and connections that our women will have forever.

Gamma Phi’s get muddy for ATO’s Tau Tug!

This spring Gamma Phi had two teams participate in ATO’s annual philanthropy “Tau Tug.” The event is a tug of war contest between the sororities that raises money for cystic fibrosis research and care. Both our teams placed in the top 10 out of 24 total teams. We had a blast participating on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. All the participants enjoyed engaging in the tug of war games, making shirts together, getting a little muddy, and being a part of ATO’s Viking Week. Our banner won second place where it was on display above the front door of the house. We really enjoyed the event and being a part of the great cause ATO supports.

Get excited for Crescent Cookout 2K12!

We’re getting so excited for our new Spring Philanthropy: Crescent Cookout! It will be on Tuesday, April 17th from 5:30-8:00 pm on our front lawn. We’ll be having live music and cornhole with food sponsored by ‘Cue BBQ, which includes pulled pork sandwiches with sides and s’mores. Proceeds support our international philanthorpy CampFire USA, a local philanthropy Chip’s Nation, and ugaMiracle. Get excited! We hope to see all of you there, so come out and support some great causes!

Olympics at 397!

For our spring sisterhood retreat this year we had pledge class olympics on our front lawn! We spent a beautiful Sunday afternoon doing relay races, egg balance, water pong, dizzy bat, three-legged races, bobbing for apples, and other events after having lunch in the chapter room. Each event had 1 competitor from each pledge class, and the winner earned a point for their pledge class!

Annual Alumnae Easter Egg Hunt!

Every year we invite our alumnae and their families to an Easter Egg Hunt on our front lawn! All of our alumnae’s children enjoy taking pictures with the Easter Bunny, playing pin the tail on the bunny, jumping on the moon bounce, playing an egg bean bag toss, and finally getting to eat all of the candy in the easter eggs they find. After the egg hunt is done we have a huge lunch in the chapter room for everyone. We had a great turnout this year and enjoyed hearing stories from alumnae about living in the house when they were here!

Relay for Life Greek Week!

It’s the start of Relay for Life’s Greek Week with the “Light up Milledge” event. Our walkway is lined with luminaries in honor or in memory of our loved ones. Our chapter donated 140 of the 200 you see here in memory of Ana Collins’ dad, one of our seniors who recently lost her father after years of battling cancer. All of the luminaries were decorated by the donator to personally dedicate their luminary to a loved one. Check out this video of Gamma Phi lighting up Milledge!
